Much has been reported in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses alive. However can the web variation of this classic game provide a reprieve, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?

Bingo is an age old game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger people opting to go to the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law around England and Wales.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of '07 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite places where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Of course they haven't abandoned this age old game?

The answer is online. Players are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cig and still enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on online could never replace the collective part of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the rules have left a good many bingo players with no alternative.
