Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That is because the Native tribes of Oklahoma have run Bingo games for generations. Patrons from many of the surrounding states load up in vans and travel into Oklahoma to bet on Bingo on the weekends.

The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a landmark decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. Since that time, twenty three of the thirty nine American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have opened gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the first Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the betting laws, and today operate 10 gambling dens of their very own. Bingo is the game on which the above-mentioned gambling halls were built on. Electronic games such as slot machines were not authorized, on the grounds that they are thought to contribute to gambling addiction more than bingo.

In recent years, Oklahoma rules have changed to allow for massive Native gambling gambling halls. You'll now see Indian casinos with slot machines, video poker and 21 tables. Craps and roulette are still not authorized in the Indian gambling halls as of yet, however this is simply a waiting game. Nobody can say with whether having other casino games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
