Much has been talked in the papers recently about the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses alive. But will the web adaptation of this quintessential game provide a escape, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar relative?

Bingo is an ancient game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had undergone a recent return in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the smoking ban all over UK.

Players will no longer be able to smoke while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they have not cast aside this enduring game?

The answer is on the net. People realise that they can enjoy bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and fag and still enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the web can never replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
