Much has been reported in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in the UK. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. However can the internet variation of this classic game offer a escape, or will it in no way compare to its real life relative?

Bingo is an ancient game generally played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had witnessed a recent return in appeal with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the legislating of the anti smoking law around England and Wales.

No more will players be allowed to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of '07 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common areas where people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not abandoned this age old game?

The answer is online. People realize that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a drink and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the net is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
