An abundance has been written in the press recently about the bingo industry struggling because of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However can the online version of this classic game offer a reprieve, or will it not compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an ancient game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger members of society opting to go to the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban around UK.

Players will no longer be able to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. From the summer of '07 every public area will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite areas where folks like to smoke.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plunged and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven't cast aside this familiar game?

The answer is on the web. Players realise that they can play bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and fag and still have a chance at big cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course playing online will never replace the collective aspect of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the rules have left a lot of bingo players with no choice.
