A lot has been stated in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax cuts to help keep the businesses alive. But will the online adaptation of this traditional game provide a salvation, or will it never compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo has been an age old game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had witnessed a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the enacting of the cigarette ban across Britain.

No more will enthusiasts be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public area will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular areas where people like to smoke.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Of course they have not cast aside this enduring game?

The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on online will never replace the collective aspect of going over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
